How to play
Setup. Twenty-five points on a five-by-five grid. Each side's twelve pieces fill its two nearest rows plus the two points of the middle row to that player's left, leaving the centre open. Haldi sits at the bottom and moves first.
Moving. On your turn move one piece along a line to an adjacent empty point. The board has no diagonals, so every move is up, down, left or right.
Capturing. Leap over an adjacent enemy piece along a straight line into the empty point directly behind it. The piece you leapt is removed. If the same piece can leap again from where it lands, you may keep leaping in the same turn. Captures are optional unless you switch on the compulsory rule.
Winning. Capture all twelve enemy pieces, or leave your opponent with no legal move on their turn.
Draw. Fifty consecutive moves without a capture end the game as a draw, so that two cautious players cannot shuffle forever.
