How to play
The board. Seventy-two cells in eight rows of nine, numbered back and forth from janma (birth) at the bottom left. The central column climbs through the seven lokas to Vaikuṇṭha, cell 68. Ropes are virtues that lift you; snakes are vices that drop you.
Start. Every token begins stationed in Vaikuṇṭha. Only a throw of six lets a token leave, and it lands on moha (delusion, cell 6). Any other throw leaves it stationed.
Moving. Each throw moves your token that many cells along the numbered path. Land at the foot of a rope and you climb to its top; land on a snake's head and you slide to its tail. A six earns another throw.
Returning. Land exactly on Vaikuṇṭha (68) to complete the journey. Overshoot and you climb into the top row; from tamoguṇa (72) the last snake sends you back to pṛthvī (51), and a throw that would carry you past 72 is lost.
The rope and snake positions follow the traditional 72-cell Gyan Chaupar layout. On a phone the board scrolls sideways.
