How to play
Board. Nine squares in a winding track, from square 1 at the bottom left to square 9 at the top right. Each player has six pieces in reserve; both race the same way, from 1 to 9 and off the far end.
Throwing. Two dice: the movement die gives 1 to 6, and the modifier die changes it. An even modifier is added, an odd modifier is subtracted. A 6 with a 1 is a dead throw: no move, and the turn is lost. Any other throw of zero or less is also lost.
Entering. A throw totalling 1 lets one piece enter on square 1; a throw of 3 lets two pieces enter together. You may instead use the throw to move.
Moving and stacking. Move one piece or one stack the full throw. Pieces of one colour on a square form a stack; move the whole stack or split some off. A throw that carries a stack past square 9 takes it off the board for good.
Duels. Land on an enemy stack and both players throw a die. The lower throw loses their whole stack on that square back to reserve; ties are thrown again.
Winning. The first player to bring all six pieces off the far end wins.
Traditional accounts leave the modifier die's faces unspecified; here it is an ordinary 1 to 6 die.
